CLIMATIC CONDITIONS : Particularly cold temperatures in the first days of December heralded winter frosts. On the night of December 19 – 20 temperatures fell to -20’C - -22 ‘C locally (-18.7’C in Dijon) the lowest temperatures since records began in 1921. There was local frost damage in some vineyards. It was a winter which brought back memories of the winter of 1985. January and February were just as cold with a lot of snow and rain and fewer sunshine hours than normal. March and April brought a pleasant spring with above normal temperatures and a lot of sunshine in the middle of this period. The summer temperatures towards the end of April encouraged good development of the buds. The ‘pointe verte’ (green bud) stage was reached around the middle of the average time over the last 20 years. During May cooler temperatures set in and we had less sunshine hours than normal for this time of the year. The first half of June saw above-average temperatures for the season which encouraged growth. The end of the flowering stage was reached around June 22 after a week marked by gloomy rain and a significant drop in temperatures. The changeable weather conditions caused ‘la coulure’ (where the flowers and young grapes fall off the vines) and ‘millerandage’ (where the young grapes fail to mature), which severely reduced the volume of the year’s harvest (from 10 – 40% less volume, depending on the parcel. July had very similar weather conditions to June, with warm and sunny periods interspersed with cooler temperatures and rain. The hours of sunshine were, however, higher than normal. These very variable weather conditions continued throughout August. But Nature knows how to do things very well. The much smaller crop meant that the maturation process progressed steadily and well, notably between August 23 and September 6. This phenomenon of concentration continued until September 24 and then the gloomy weather returned. Thus the smaller crop meant smaller but ripe grapes, concentrated and with a good acidity. All these elements combined to produce a great classic vintage, pure and with a high sugar content. HARVEST This small harvest, resulting from such capricious weather, gave birth, incredible as it might seem, to a great vintage - distinguished, hearty, clean, classical - with a superb complexity. The first cuts of the secateurs took place on Wednesday 22 September in the vines of Beaune 1er Cru “Les Avaux”, Savigny Les Beaune 1er Cru and Pernand Vergelesses, followed on 23 September by Savigny Les Beaune Village and Vosne Romanée Village; 24 – 25 and 26 September Vosne Romanée , Gevrey Chambertin, Fixin and Fixin ‘Les Fondemens ‘ then Bourgogne Rouge. Monday 27 September the team returned to the the heart of the vineyards : Nuits St Georges 1er Cru ‘Les Boudots’, Echezeaux and Echezeaux ‘Ville Vigne’, Chambolle Musigny. The next day and the day after Clos de Vougeot, Grands-Echezeaux, Vosne Romanée1er Cru ‘Les Orveaux’, Richebourg, Nuits St Georges ‘Les Plateaux’. Thursday 30 September and Friday 1 October were devoted to harvesting Marsannay Blanc ‘Clos du Roy’, then Bourgogne Aligoté and finally Bourgognes Passetoutgrain ‘Le Libertin’ and Grand Ordinaire ‘La Superbe’. We finished the harvest in the Hautes-Côtes-de-Nuits on 7 and 8 October at Arcenant ‘La Croix’ and at Chaux ‘Les Dames Huguettes’. 2010 was truly a vintage of winegrowers, where high standards, good judgement and expertise were combined at every moment. THE WINE The 2010 vintage produced magnificent, classic wine, with harmonious and rich olfactory notes. The colours are very classic and typical of good pinot noirs: beautiful bright, deep ruby colour. The nose is expressive in a register of red fruit and fresh with notes of strawberry and raspberry. The aromas are subtle and noble, of great delicacy, with harmonious floral notes. On the palate, the tannins are silky and elegant with a very nice balance between acidity and roundness. Pinot Noir du Bourgogne 2010 is brilliantly expressed by the structure of the wine, its elegance, freshness and complexity. The identity of each ‘terroir’ is revealed in pure wines, honest and with an exquisite richness.

WEATHER CONDITIONS: The winter of 2009 was long and harsh: January and February had tempÈratures well below the seasonal average. As for the milder temperatures at the beginning of March, these were rapidly forgetten by the arrival of fresh winter weather at the end of the first 10 days of the month. Spring really arrived in April with higher temperatures which produced a quick awakening of the vegetation. Buds were observed on April 12, about in the middle of the normal budding time during the past 15 years. The start of May was relatively cool but summer arrived within a few days. May was really summery. The growth of the vegetation was therefore fast and some flowers were observed in the more premature parcels. The mid-bloom stage was reached in the first days of June, similar to 2003. Flowering, under thËse very favourable conditions, took place quickly. Even though 2009 was a relatively dry year June and July had higher than average rainfall and the vines benefitted from this rain to develop maturity. After this there was a time of warmth and sunshine during August which lasted until mid-October. The colour changes started very quickly and full colour change was achieved on 20 August in most parcels. The good weather allowed maturity to finish under optimal conditions and in perfect health in September. THE HARVEST: This beautiful late summer led to a perfect maturation of the grapes and seeds, which allowed us to prolong our macÈration in order to extract the last perfect drop. The very good quality of the harvest and the perfect state of health offered an extraordinary rich abundance of natural sugars and well balanced sugar/acidity. Comparison of figures in Burgundy? Accident of climate science or mystery of numerology? We started the harvest on Wednesday 09/09/2009, simply because it was time…….. The first grapes were cut in the vines of Savigny Les Beaune village and 1er Cru, then in Beaune 1er Cru "Les Avaux" and in the afternoon at Pernand Vergelesses. Thursday 10 September we finished Pernand and then returned to the vines of Bourgogne Passetoutgrain "Aux Rouges Champs". The Friday was spent harvesting Gevrey Chambertin, Chambolle Musigny then Saturday Clos du Vougeot, Vougeot 1er Cru "Les Cras" and a part of Grands-Echezeaux. Sunday 13 September we continued in Grands-Echezeaux, then Echezeaux and Echezeaux "Vieille Vigne". Monday 14 September the first team harvestted Richebourg then Nuits St Georges 1er Cru "Les Boudots" and the second team occupied itself with Fixin and Fixin ´†Les Fondemens†ª and Marsannay "Clos due Roy". The 15th was dedicated to harvestting Vosne Romanee, 1er crus "Les Orveaux", "Les Suchots", "Les Petits Monts" and Nuits St Georges "Les Plateaux". Harvestted at the end of the month, the 24th and 25th, the grapes of the Hautes-Cotes de Nuits were able to make the most of thËse beautiful September days THE WINES: The 2009 vintage promises to carry on the Burgundian myth of years ending in a 9………. The red wines have very beautiful colours of deep shiny red and a gorgeous intensity of flavour of ripe red and black fruit mixed with spicy notes. The tannic potential is evident and enhances the magnitude of the wines both by the complexity and roundness of the tannins and by the richness and balance. The white wines are both lively and structured with magnificently textured flavours which give them a nice balance and harmony.

WEATHER CONDITIONS: 2008 started with a mild, dry winter, a particularly sunny February which caused tears in the vineyards until mid March and a spring which started off cool and wet. Vegetation was not really seen before April 20 and the first buds appeared ten days later than average for the last 14 years. The good weather during the first half of May encouraged the growth of vegetation and partly made up for the late start. From May 15 until the beginning of summer the weather was unsettled. Flowering started slowly and full bloom was reached on June 14. Cold weather and a lot of rain caused the phenomenon known as ‘coulure’ (or ‘millerandage’ – an incomplete fertilisation of the flowers which results in the grapes remaining small and green and significantly reduces the size of the harvest). July was generally sunny and clusters were seen close to July 15 in most parcels. The first half of August was cool and rainy, causing slow maturation and early ripening was not seen before August 11. Happily, the last week of the month was warm and sunny, which allowed full ripening and maturity of the grapes. Early September was once again gloomy, but from September 14 there was settled good weather, cool and windy. The vines profitted from the sunshine to reach full maturity, the northerly winds led to a concentration of sugar in the grapes and the cool weather ensured a very satisfactory state of health for the vines. THE HARVEST: The harvest started under cloudy skies with some very cool nights (5 – 6 °C at sunrise) but in very good daytime conditions with pleasant tempÈratures (around 22 °C). We started cutting on Monday 22 September in the vineyards of Bourgogne Grand Ordinaire and Passetoutgrain, then the next day in Beaune 1er Cru “Les Avaux”, September 23 at Savigny Les Beaune for Villages and the Premiers Crus. The 25th was spent harvesting Pernand Vergelesses, Vosne Romanee and Echezeaux and we finished September 26 in Fixin. The weekend of September 27 and 28 was reserved for harvesting the Grands Crus: Grands-Echezeaux, Echezeaux “Vielle Vigne”, Richebourg, Clos de Vougeot. The vines of Nuits St Georges, Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny and Vosne Romanee 1er cru "Les Orveaux" were harvested on Monday 29 September. The 30th was spent harvesting the parcels of Nuits St Georges "Les Plateaux" and Vosne Romanee 1er Cru "Les Suchots". The next day, October 1, we harvested the appellations régionales (white) and also Marsannay "Clos du Roy" and finished with the two generic Burgundies. The weather conditions at the beginning of October were particularly favourable and we harvested the vineyards of the Hautes-Cotes from October 10 – 12 and nature gave us a good vintage with the best possible maturity. THE WINES: The 2008 vintage knew how to play with the whims of nature: the good maturity of the grapes was due to the dry soil and water loss associated with the northerly winds which reduced the volume and raised the sugar content. This good harvest was the result of ‘haute-couture’ work: know-how, patience, a lot of observation and regular monitoring of the parcels, careful sorting at the winery with all possible human resources. Red wines such as the grÈ‚t classics of Burgundy come with deep colours, beautiful flavours of red and black fruit, round, silky tannins and a rich acidity. The wines are structured, concentrated and complex, with great aromatic purity and good ageing potential. White wines have high acidity which highlights the pure flavours of fresh fruit like all great vintages. The wines are big and powerful, well balanced and therefore very promising.

WEATHER CONDITIONS: The winter of 2007 was particularly mild, with warmer tempÈratures than normal from December to February and above average sunshine hours. The weather in March was fine, and April reached new record highs with almost summer-like tempÈratures, outdoing the seasonal averages and setting new record highs at the end of the month of 25 – 30 °C. The mild winter and sunny April led to a rapid growth and immediate budding, with 50% ‘green point’ being reached on April 11, 2007 - more than 13 days ahead of 2006. Flowering was also particularly early with the first flowers being seen in mid-May and the full flower on May 21. Plenty of rain in June led to rapid growth of the grapes and full clusters were reached on June 20. The summer continued with unstable grey weather and cooler temperatures until the second ten days of August. The first grapes were examined on July 13 and reached full colour change on July 18. Cooler than normal temperatures, exacerbated by a northerly wind, meant (despite the rain) a good healthy condition for the grapes. They matured slowly and finally, thanks to sunshine at the end of August, the concentration of sugar increased significantly. The harvest was announced in the first half of August but wisdom and patience meant it did not take place until the end of the month. 2007 can be best be summed up as a year with fantastic weather which demanded a great deal of professionalism and sacrifice since conditions forced a focus on sorting of the grapes from the vineyard and a reasonable standard of work in the cuverie. Control and experience are the keywords for this vintage: a reward for enthusiasts of the great terroirs of Burgundy. THE HARVEST: The harvest was announed for early August, Aug 13 for the Cote d’Or, leaving each winemaker free to choose the best date. In order to profit from the return of the sunshine, Vincent decided to wait to get the best concentrations. So, on August 29 we started harvesting the parcels of Savigny les Beaune Villages, 1er Cru "The Narbantons" and Beaune 1er Cru "Les Avaux" and the next day the Appellations Regionales Bourgogne Rouge on the Cote de Nuits. Saturday 1er September, with dry, sunny weather, we harvested in the vineyards of Fixin, Vosne Romanee Village et 1er Cru "Les Suchots" then the 2 crus of Nuits St Georges, Echezeaux and Richeboug. Monday September 3, with equally fine weather, was devoted to harvesting the other Grands Crus†: Clos de Vougeot, Grands Echezeaux and Echezeaux "Vielle Vigne". On Tuesday, in cold but sunny weather, was devoted to the appeallations of Vougeot 1er Cru "Les Cras", Gevrey Chambertin, Chambolle Musigny and Vosne Romanee 1er Cru "Les Orveaux". The end of the week was focussed on harvestting Nuits St Georges "Les Plateaux", Marsannay "Clos du Roy" and the other white crus of Bourgogne Chardonnay and Bourgogne Aligote. The parcels of the Hautes-Cotes-de-Nuits were harvested on September 15 when they were fully ripe. THE WINES: Without any haste and with great attention to each parcel, Vincent wisely chose the dates for the harvest and this decision was paramount. Meticulous work in the vineyard and then careful sorting in the winery to ensure only the best grapes were kept guaranteed the best quality for our wines in 2007. The challenge is always to find the right balance between color, flavours and tannins: experience in a nutshell. The result is a magnificently typical Pinot Noir in each terroir. The colours are a beautiful cherry red. The flavours are fruity with delicate notes of red fruits: strawberry and cherry but also with floral expressions. The tannins are silky, fine and round, all giving the wine a rich palette of emotions and elegance. The 2007 vintage will reveal to you all the complexity of Pinot Noir, the magic of each terroir and the talent of the winemaker.

CLIMATIC CONDITIONS: After an harsh winter and daily frosts till mid-March, the bud burst in Pinot Noir is a long time coming. The stage of beginning of “Pointe Verte” is notice from April 18th. However, the exceptional conditions on the following week-end led to suddenly vegetation reawakening. On the whole, May is rather fresh, the temperatures rise from the end of the first ten days of June, leading a quick growing. The exceptional sunlight, highest temperatures and pluviometric deficit on this mid-June caused a fast and homogeneous flowering. The inflorescences are numerous, the heights and structures are regular, comparable to 2005. July especially hot and sunny fears a great earliness; August keeps temperatures moderate and copious rainfall. The summery weather conditions in September favoured the ripening process for a perfect maturity. Thus, the nature gives always great surprises in spite of all extravagances. The sunny month of September offers ideal ripening conditions for the “sleeping” grapes in August. 2006 was surprising and will surprise again with his so burgundy personality, promise of a great vintage THE HARVESTS: Permission to begin harvesting the grapes was given on September 20th for the Côte de Nuits AOC vineyard but we decided to start slightly later in order to give the grapes optimum maturity. We cut the first bunches on September 22nd at Beaune 1er Cru “Les Avaux” Pernand Vergelesses, Savigny les Beaune village appellation and 1er Cru in the afternoon. The next days, 23rd, 24th and 25th, we harvested the grapes in Vosne Romanée, Vougeot and Clos de Vougeot as well as in Echezeaux and Grands Echezeaux. Next, on the 27th September, came the Pinot Noir grapes at Nuits Saint Georges, Gevrey Chambertin, Chambolle Musigny and Vosne Romanée les Orveaux, followed on the 28th by Richebourg and Nuits Saint Georges Les Boudots. The next day, we harvested the grapes at the regionals appellations in Vosne Romanée and Vougeot. To achieving optimum maturity, we decided to break off harvesting for a while and we cut the grapes of the Hautes Côtes de Nuits on October 5th and 6th. THE WINES: From the train of the vine till the work in the winery, the know-how employed during vinification was the only element for a great and complete success. The wines of the 2006 vintage are from a great quality particularly in Côte de Nuits. The colours are lively deep and intense. The aromas reveal red and dark fruits, raspberries, bilberries, black-cherries and spicy notes. The excellent concentration of tannins offers a dense and rich complexity with a meaty and firm structure. In the month, the persistency is already synonymous of great promises. The singularity of our soils expresses a very varied range of characters, an excellent potential for developing into great and rich tasting.

CLIMATIC CONDITIONS : The winter 2005 had lower temperatures than the overall negative seasonal averages until mid-March. Consequently, the arrival of spring came without transition, with maximum temperatures often higher than 20°C. April and May received an important, even exceptional amount of rain which did not correct the large deficit. In fact, the bud burst in Pinot Noir was at the usual dates of mid-April. After a first fortnight of May, overall enough fresh for the season, the maximum temperatures about 30°C from the 25 to May 29 caused a very significant development of the vegetation, thus locating flowering around June 6 (the average of the last decade). In the first days of August the dryness was now quite present in spite of season temperatures without excess; the phenomenon is accentuated by the north wind, present until the grape harvest. The 2005 vintage is announced like a very great year, but the remarks must be careful because in Burgundy your never know what the weather will be. With fine rains and beautiful sunny days September had perfect a maturity already quite advanced and gave a splendid and extraordinary vintage in accordance with the proverb "August matures, September harvests, in these two months everything works out ". THE HARVESTS : From this year with a particularly beneficial climate for the wine results an excellent clean and pure state of the crop and an optimal maturity. The sugar contents developed quickly, the total acidity and the malic acid are greater interest and the tartaric acid is normal despite the lack of water: a great vintage. The first bunches were cut on September 17th in the vineyard of Savigny Les Beaune village and 1er Cru, followed the next day in Beaune 1er Cru « Les Avaux » and Pernand Vergelesses. Picking continued the 19th and 20th in Vougeot, Chambolle Musigny, Nuits St Georges « Les Plateaux », Clos de Vougeot and Echezeaux. On Wednesday 21st the cheerful team joined the grand cru Richebourg. The 22nd and 23th were spent harvesting in the Grands-Echezeaux, Vosne Romanée « Les Orveaux » and in Gevrey Chambertin. We finished the grape harvest in the Hautes-Côtes-de-Nuits and regional appellations in our special reserve "La Superbe " and "Le Libertin" on Saturday September 24th. In 2005, this invaluable concept of "climat" in Burgundy was exceptionally well expressed in this splendid year. THE WINES : The 2005 vintage reveals wines of a great concentration, richness and fineness. The wines are perfectly balanced, consistent, with strong and deep colours. The spice and fruit flavours are very varied, combining blackcurrant, cherry, wild strawberry and peppered notes in purest aromatic complexity. The rich, fine and round tannins, associated with a beautiful acidity provide the wines with a powerful structure and a perfect balance. A beautiful vintage with an especially exceptional potential!

CLIMATIC CONDITIONS : After a slow winter, the development of the vegetation fasters in mid-April, due to a clear increase of temperature. Then, following to fresh May, particularly during night, the beginning of June means higher temperatures than the seasonal ones. The beginning of a Pinot Noir flower can be observed on June, 5th in our vineyards in Vosne Romanée, the full flower appears around the 10. That June was hotter than as usual, but definitely no comparison with 2003) and thus, it involved a fast growth of the vine. Some fears had been arisen because of the unstable weather during July and August. That’s why we decided to make a green-harvesting. After a chaotic climate in summer, September was sunny = you can notice a record insolation within the 10 first days : 27,6 degrees (high value if one refers to the previous record reached in 1929 with 30,6 degrees) and 115,49 hours of sunshine, was a brand-new record from 1948. THE HARVESTS : These various weather conditions during the vegetative phase keeps the vine to take what it needs at the very bottom of its resources and soils. We are trying to search for identity and singularity of our soils through taking care of environment in respectful vinegrowing and of the vegetative phase, as well as to listen to and understand our vineyards. The first bunches were cut on September 23th in Savigny Les Beaune village and 1er Cru, the 24 in Beaune 1er Cru « Les Avaux », the 25th and 26th in Vosne and in Vougeot, the 27th and 28th in Vosne 1er Crus, Grands-Echezeaux and Clos de Vougeot, the 29th in Nuits St Georges, the 30th in Richebourg and Fixin, the 1st of october in the Hautes-Côtes-de-Nuits. 2004 vintage proves that the identity and the quality of Pinot Noir are linked with Burgundian soils and vinegrowers work. It is a truly good reason not to quit our search! THE WINES : De-budding, green-harvesting, selective picking, control of the yields, are as many elements which were more determining for the great quality of this year. The maturities which reached a very high level compared to usual (from 12,5 to 13,5° natural) and good acidities on the whole vineyards offered a wine of a great purity, respectful to our soils. The colours are sharp and intense; the wines have a good freshness. They are fleshy, deep and rich, with full and silky tannins. The textures are consistent and supple; they give a great distinction and spread diversity, that is to say the single identity of the noblest soils. Thus, the 2004 wines will be appreciated quickly as well as later in time. A great charming vintage coming from our “terroirs”!

A VERY EARLY SPRING, DROUGHT, AN EXCEPTIONALLY HOT SUMMER The 2003 vintage will go down in the annals of Burgundy’s wine-growing history for its exceptional climatic conditions with harvests earlier than at any time since the early 19th century. EXCEPTIONALLY EARLY GROWING SEASON: The growing season began very early, with temperatures above the seasonal average from March onward. However, hard frosts during April considerably reduced the production potential in certain plots, among them those under the Puligny Montrachet village appellation. The vines began flowering on May 19th, in the Vosne Romanée plots, and were in full flower by May 28th. From the end of May on, Burgundy enjoyed very hot, dry, sunny weather which continued until the harvesting was over. EXCEPTIONALLY HOT WEATHER IN AUGUST: Historic! Between August 4th and 14th the maximum temperatures at Vosne Romanée, were over 40°C, reaching as high as 43°C on the 13th. As a result the sugar content of the grapes rose in a spectacular fashion. The chart shows exceptional temperatures well above average between March and September 2003. We have taken 2001 as the reference year, as the temperatures were in line with the normal temperatures experienced within the département. The temperatures on the chart were taken at Vosne Romanée, with thermometers placed directly in vines, 40 cm above ground level, namely at the height of the grapes. Temperatures as high this as this were last recorded in 1893. EXCEPTIONALLY DRY: From February to August, rainfall was less than 40 mm per month, which accentuated the concentration of the grapes in record time. Luckily, the vines did not suffer too much from the drought, in some cases hardly at all, and demonstrated their ability to weather extreme climatic conditions. The consequence was the smallest harvest for more than 10 years. EXCEPTIONALLY EARLY HARVESTS: With a growing cycle of only 84 days at Vosne Romanée (compared to the average 100 days between the date of flowering and the date when harvesting begins) and the unusual climatic conditions in August, permission to start harvesting was granted several weeks earlier than in previous years. In the Côte D’Or, harvesting began on August 19th 2003. The last time the harvest began so early was on August 4th 1822. At the Domaine, our team began work on August 28th, at the Beaune 1er Cru plot “Les Avaux”, followed by Savigny Les Beaune Village and the “Les Narbantons” 1er Cru on the 29th and then Les Echezeaux and Echezeaux “Vieilles Vignes” on the 30th. On August 31st it was the turn of the Richebourg Grand Cru and the Premier Cru “Les Petits Monts” plots at Vosne Romanée. On 1st September we harvested the grapes at Nuits St Georges, “Les Plateaux” which comes under the Village appellation and the Premier Cru “Les Boudots”. We then returned to Vosne Romanée, where we harvested the Premier Cru “Les Suchots” followed by the “Clos de Vougeot” Grand Cru plots. The grape-picking took only 7 days, as we had purposely assembled a large team. EXCEPTIONAL WINES: 2003 will be remembered as the year par excellence of the “vigneron” and the “wine-maker”, a year in which the Pinot Noir grape displayed all its virtues at their very best. The maturity of the grapes not only depended on the high sugar content susceptible of being transformed into alcohol, but also on the phenol content. This is contributed by the pips and the skins - important factors in the structure and complexity of the wine, and it, too, reached a high degree of maturity. The wines are deep and rich in colour, with sparkling gleams of light. Aromas of red and dark fruits, including blueberries, blackcurrants, blackberries and black cherries, enlivened with spicy notes, afford concentration and complexity. In the mouth, the wines are dense and rich, with tannins that are sustained, round and mature, owing to the thick skins and the small quantity of juice contained in the grapes. Their structure is firm and well-balanced, and there is sufficient acidity to provide a rich, generous body; excellent for laying down, with unrivalled promise. We shall be very happy to share with you this rare and exceptional vintage, which is said to resemble that of 1947.

“A man who’s indifferent to wine, women and song will remain a fool throughout his life” Martin LUTHER 1483-1546 CLIMATIC CONDITIONS October, which marked the beginning of the resting period for the vines, was mild and rainy. November heralded winter with the first frosts. After a short warm spell, cold dry sunny weather prevailed throughout December and up till the end of January. There were frequent frosts and average temperatures were lower than usual. By contrast February and March were mild and wet.The growing period, which began in March, was variable. Temperatures climbed slowly but were mild on the whole, despite some early-morning frosts in late spring. At the end of April, the temperatures rose sharply and were some 3°C hotter than usual. Rainfall was low. June was extremely dry and hot, even very hot, with temperatures around 30°C. On June 18th, 36.4°C was recorded at Vosne Romanée. The Pinot Noir grapes in the Côte de Nuits began flowering on June 11th, and a great burst of flowers occurred during the week-end of 15th-19th June. Conditions remained very favourable to active growth right through to the end of the month. By the beginning of August, most of the vines had reached the start of the ripening period. Temperatures during July and August were slightly lower than the seasonal average. THE HARVESTS: In September the weather conditions were ideal, consisting of fine sunny days and cool nights, a combination favouring concentration and fine healthy grapes. From the beginning of September on, the grapes achieved extraordinarily high sugar levels, affording fine indications of maturity and promising an excellent balance in terms of sugars-acidity. The first bunches were cut on September 18th in the Savigny Les Beaune Village and 1er Cru plots. Picking continued in Vosne Village on the 19th and Puligny Montrachet on the 21st. The 22nd was a wonderful day, spent harvesting in the Richebourg and Clos de Vougeot plots, followed the next day by the Vosne Romanée Premiers Crus, and then Gevrey, Chambolle Musigny. Each plot was carefully inspected and assessed first to decide the best order in which to harvest them in order to ensure the best possible quality by picking the grapes at the optimum point of their maturity and health. Harvesting accordingly took place in a highly satisfactory manner with every promise that the 2002 vintage would be great one. THE WINES : The dry weather conditions during the growing season ensured fine maturity, excellent balance and fine concentration for every one of the plots. The wines are rich and intense in colour with deep gleams that are rare in Pinot Noir wines. Their bouquets are sustained, with very diverse and truly remarkable aromas of red and dark fruits. In the mouth, the wines are round and perfectly balanced, thanks to the high sugar levels and excellent acidity due to the very sunny days and cool nights throughout September. The wines have a firm tannic structure yet are soft, delicate and elegant. This is a vintage to be laid down, for the these wines will take some years to reach maturity and fully reveal their wonderful complexity and richness.

Echezeaux wines are a clear garnet or ruby red, the exact hue often varying considerably. When young these wines have vanilla-scented, smoky, woody aromas or a hint of torrefaction, combined with suggestions of red fruits and spices. After a few years the nose becomes more vegetable or animal, with the scent of mushrooms, truffles or woodland undergrowth. The great complexity of the bouquet makes this a wine which is both rich and feminine; it is silky, fat and mellow, with fine, delicate and fairly supple tannins. In the mouth the attack is spirited, the balance pleasant and there is a succulent fullness with aromas of red fruits.

To the Eye A pure bright deep red, truly stunning. Clear and limpid, the shifting colour nuances often vary, though generally tending towards fairly dark shades of garnet or violet-purple - a colour that holds the eye. To the Nose With age, the palette tends towards pepper and musk, animal pelts, leather and spices, prunes. Sometimes the bouquet hints at scents of woodland undergrowth, moss, mushrooms, damp earth, game. Fruit preserved in alcohol and mulberries round off this range of aromas. Especially in young wines, one may well encounter scents of pine, dog roses, violets and fresh cherries. In the Mouth Peaceful and dreamy, serene with age, subtle and refined, this wine fully reveals the complex nature of a really good Burgundy, all the art that can be achieved through the medium of pinot noir grapes grown on one particular terroir. The structure is outstanding: solid, full-bodied, rich and exceptionally harmonious. It is wholly appropriate for the qualification Great to precede Echezeaux in the name Grands-Echezeaux. It has that extra touch of class, of vinosity, and a dense and subtle texture.

Clos de Vougeot grand cru wines are harmonious, round, generous, fleshy, ample, mellow, racy and elegant, with a deep rich ruby red colour. The bouquet is of quite exceptional aromatic intensity in which the concentrated perfumes of rich red and black fruits (cherries, mulberries, blackcurrants), vanilla and spices, woodland undergrowth, violets and, with age, animal pelts, all mingle and combine. In the mouth this ample, meaty, muscular wine achieves perfect balance between fine tannins, mellowness, and a discreet acidity; the complex aromas linger a long time in the mouth.

The robe, or colour, is feminine, the nose masculine. The mouth is full of life with an incomparable richness, a generosity which is sometimes overwhelming. To the Eye Everything depends on the vintage and the age of the bottle. A Richebourg can be a velvety ruby colour or a dark nocturnal red, shading towards blackish purple. The colour is always intense and dense, luminous and shot through with gleams of carmine. To the Nose When young, this wine reveals aromas of musk and Russian leather, with touches of sandalwood. With age it acquires scents of hawthorn and peachblossom. Two aromatic families can be distinguished: hints of lichen, woodland undergrowth and mushrooms on the one hand, on the other the scent of cherries, blackcurrants, cooked or preserved fruits. In the Mouth When young this wine positively explodes, intense and violent. It needs to be allowed to age for several years, during which time it will become expansive and warm. Elegant and racy, it is capable of a long life, and wines from the great vintages are superb, the very image of sensuous pleasure. They occasionally have more finesse than structure, but may conversely be massively fruity and enthusiastic, compact and muscular in temperament.

Vosne Romanée premier cru Les Suchots wines are remarkable, and despite the presence of a thalberg, or valley bottom, in the vineyard, fairly homogeneous. They are close to Romanée-Saint-Vivant wines, robust, perfumed and very elegant. Their beautiful colour intensity, of a deep ruby or garnet, reminds one of a Petit-Musigny. Their complex aromas are characterised by scents of spices, ripe fruits, vanilla, caramel and liquorice. In the mouth, the fine delicate tannins make these wines linger long on the palate and confer a velvety mellowness, making this a wine of great distinction and elegance.

Nuits St Georges wines make you long to bite into them. Although their name evokes twilight and nightfall, these premier crus have a fairly vigorous nature, hard while immature, more caressing later on. Les Boudots wines, rigorous and lively, with a high alcohol content and great finesse, are notable for their soft, perfumed bouquet, reminiscent of blackcurrants and wild blackberries; their bouquet alone makes them easy to distinguish from wines from other vineyard areas. This wine dazzles you less by its body than by its subtlety. It is as if the Côte regretted having made an oversight, and had returned to Vosne for a moment. They are a deep ruby in colour, and possess a vigorous personality, with fennel elements and aromas of red fruits. The fine acidity that characterises these wines makes them perfectly balanced and suitable for laying down.

Grown a stone's throw from Clos de Vougeot, Les Amoureuses and Le Musigny, Vougeot wines are obviously strongly akin to these illustrious growths. The fact that only a small quantity is produced gives it a special cachet To the Eye : Its colour is deep and luminous, with a purplish-violet tint which reveals the intensity of this wine. On the Nose : The aromas evoke violets and red and black fruits (raspberries, Morello cherries, mulberries, blackcurrants) and sometimes cocoa. Like the deep red of its colouring they imbue it with finesse and render it highly seductive. As this wine ages its suggests woodland undergrowth, with scents of dead leaves and truffles mingled with animal notes. In the Mouth : The mouth is generally pleasing, affording a true guarantee of its origins. It is solidly structured but its tannins have a certain delicacy and its attack is very pure. Its fleshiness and acidity form a simple and very pleasing harmony. From time to time a hint of liquorice is perceptible. Le Vougeot premier cru "Les Cras" is a racy wine with points in common with Chambolle Musigny. The well-drained pebbly soil on which it grows makes this a perfumed and elegant wine.

Gevrey-Chambertin wines are deep in colour with fine expressive aromas. When young they suggest blackcurrants and other red or black soft fruits, with hints of liquorice heightened by their being partially matured in new oak casks. As the wines age they acquire further aromas suggestive of animal pelts, musk, spicy vanilla and Havana cigars. Rich, fine and full-bodied they have a robust, well-balanced structure. These wines, with their resounding name, are famed for their bouquet and finesse; they are known to have been Napoleon's favourite wine, which he took with him on his campaigns.

Subtle, with discreet tannins, and a low acid content, they have a light, open structure which gives them a feminine image. Perfumed and mellow, they have a rich bouquet. Thanks to the fruit of the Pinot Noir and the youth of the vintage, Hautes-Côtes-de-Nuits wine delights the palate of the more educated wine drinker. With its bold and brilliant color, this wine invites you to drink, offering a palette of aromas nuanced with red and black fruit, a truly heady bouquet. In the mouth it astonishes with its length and its power and also with its fineness and generosity. Although a classically made wine, it will surprise the wine drinker and encourage a few into disloyalty. Aways a beautiful accompaniment to typical Burgundian cooking, but also a surprisingly good companion to an inventive cuisine such as a beef carpaccio or a lamb filet with a coriander crust.

The Pinot Noir grapes contribute balance and finesse to the fruity qualities, and structure and complexity to the body. Le “Libertin” is a bright cherry red in colour. It is low in tannins and has a lively bouquet with fresh, fruity aromas. In the mouth it is lively and balanced, with a perfume suggestive of red fruits with an acid note: gooseberries, bilberries and blackberries. The wonderful fruitiness of this growth is a delight to the senses, and in the mouth it is extremely seductive.
